To Whom It May Concern:
I am pleased to respond to Ed Chang's request for a letter of recommendation. Ed worked for my firm, Leland O'Brien Rubinstein Associates, Inc. (LOR) for the period July l982 - March 1983. The firm provides a method for hedging institutional portfolios against downside risk. Its principal clients are pension funds and large investment management firms; its product is delivered through a time-sharing system using LOR's proprietary software.
Ed Chang's primary responsibility was the utilization and to a limited degree the development of software. The task was made more difficult by the fact our programs are written in APL, a reasonably unfathomable programming language. Starting from scratch, Ed made good progress in understanding both our product and our software. He exhibited outstanding diligence in responding to our client's requests for simulations and other applications of the programs. He did not have time to reach a high level of expertise in programming APL, but he was able to make some small but important changes to the code.
In short, I believe Ed Chang has both the talent and the willingness to be a highly productive staff member in the area of software development and application. We parted on good terms. He has a pleasing personality and I expect he will continue to be successful in future work.
